One of the best things you can do when preparing for the birth of your baby is take a birth education class. Childbirth education is one tool, among many, that can be used to empower you in your choices in pregnancy, will influence how your baby is born, and will even provide guidance in the postpartum period.
How can a class have such a big impact?
Because childbirth education is more than you learning the anatomy and physiology of birth - though that is a big part of it because just that basic understanding can help navigate decisions as you know what is normal and healthy, and when something is deviating from that.
A childbirth education class introduces your options, you learn what's common practice in whatever setting you've chosen to birth in (hospital, birth center, home), and teaches you skills that you can use in all of those scenarios.
We recommend - as do most of these instructors - that you take these classes alongside your partner, so you both are prepared for the journey that is birth.
We are fortunate to have a wide range of courses and instructors in our area. Their websites give more info on their approach and style, so check out a few to see who is the best fit for you!
